[New!] Local Authorities show their support to the UN Binding Treaty on transnational corporations and human rights
Municipalities are in direct contact with citizens and communities and have often witnessed and suffered the human rights violations committed by transnational corporations and other business enterprises. They can and must be in the frontline of the elaboration of a UN binding instrument to stop impunity.
The Second Revised Draft of the binding instrument is under discussion at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, during the 6th Session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group (OEIGWG), from 26th to 30th October 2020.
This year, the process towards the Binding Treaty is undergoing a critical stage.
In this context, the support of Mayors and City Council Members of cities such as Barcelona, Strasbourg, Paris, and others can make a tangible difference. The first local authorities endorsing the Call, and joining the support of the Global Interparliamentary Network (GIN) to the Binding Treaty are the following.
First signatories
Danielle Dambach
Mayor of Schiltigheim, Delegate President of the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg (France)
Martine Aubry
Mayor of Loos-en-Gohelle (France)
Member of the City Council of Blagnac (France)
